Our HIS 9-5 still has a very intermittent SRS light that comes up randomly when turning the wheel in cold weather. Activating the horn seems to extinguish it for extended periods. Radio buttons and horn work flawlessly. My previous research also pointed to the clock spring. The newer, and I presume improved clock spring requires a wiring adapter for our 2005, both available through one of the site sponsers. I have both parts in stock ready to go but have been holding off since the mean time between SRS lights has decreased dramatically to almost a non issue. Maybe exercising the horn aka "horning" is a good thing in these cases.
My limited understanding (and I could be wrong) is that if the horn and radio buttons are both acting up, e.g. negative function, and you have a SRS light, it more strongly points to the clock spring (wiring).
Our HERS 9-5 had an SRS light go on an off until it went steady on. "Horning" the light did not work at all but replacing the front right crash sensor worked immediately (after Aktive Motors narrowed the root cause for me) . The light has not returned since. You will see a couple of posts from me on the two issues above in the archives. I agree, not a lot on SRS issues on the web. If you end up playing in this sandbox, ensure you understand the serious safety precautions working with SRS systems.
