Hello all. My 2003 SAAB 9-5 had to be towed to a mechanic after several warning lights illuminated on dashboard and chimes went on and off, then the car seemed to go into what I think is "limp home" mode. The gear shifting was very "jerky", and it was barely drive-able. At one point, the whole instrument panel went blank, although the engine was still running. I was also having intermittent trouble starting it -- no crank.
The only warning signs were in the 2-3 weeks prior to the breakdown when I got dashboard lights and chimes for a couple of seconds each time, but the display would usually say "Check OK". I visited my mechanic at the time who said there were no error codes returned. I also noticed around that time that the fuel gauge sometimes would suddenly read empty, then a few minutes later resume showing the actual fuel level.
My mechanic is now getting codes of P1625 and P1623 which he says is a communication issue between the ECM (Trionic) and the TCM. He did not have the expertise to fix this particular type of problem, so I had to have it towed to a SAAB dealer in my area. The service dept there is still trying to figure out what's going on -- apparently the problem is intermittent and elusive in terms of generating consistent error codes. (I brought it in 6 days ago).
Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, how was it resolved?
Thanks in advance!!
