HOT Air: A 2005 9-5 Arc exhaust parts Saab Story Posted by Dave The Ice Age Knave [Email] (#2068) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dave The Ice Age Knave) on Wed, 24 Feb 2016 19:11:07 In Reply to: Re: 2005 9-5 Arc exhaust parts, Snowmobile [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 23 Feb 2016 10:29:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi Snowmobile,
The historical context is a Volvo 240, Saab 9000 and now "His" and "Hers" 2005 Saab 9-5's. The 5 yr old pre-purchase inspection on "Hers" indicated the muffler would last another 12 months or so. It was probably original and has been progressively molting. I purchased an OE muffler inter. pipe and front resonator spare as an insurance policy against downtime. Interestingly, five years and 100KM later, "Hers" muffler did not fail but rather the better looking "His" did. Since the front flex pipe looked a bit haggard, I had that replaced as well on "His" so Starla flex, rez interm pipe and OE muffler. Bottom line - OE exhaust parts are quite stout estimated life 150K Km to 250K km from new. Starla replacements - TBA but looking good so far. Yes, unlike the steel shields on the 9000, the 9-5ers look like aluminum so I don't expect any catastrophic corrosion yet.
