Assuming plugs are fresh and the ignition cassette are good, my vote is the CPS. When mine started giving me problems, a mid throttle stumble or surge was the first symptom, later it would surge and then it would shut off at a stop light, and not restart when hot, restarted when it cooled down. $100 part at Autozone, cheaper on site sponsors.
Search on my name for the step by step CPS replacement that worked for me, I posted it again a few days ago, original post was a couple of years ago.
Good luck.
