Got it. I take from the replies (thanks to all) that there are car/driver/environment factors that easily explain the mpg drop so "not to worry". The mpg drop I noticed though, while certainly not extreme, is counter to what I've observed and come to expect out of both of my 2.3t. Nonetheless, car drives great since cat, DIC and throttle body replaced last fall and after 14 years has no creaks (well a slight one over some speed bumps), rattles, leaks, paint or leather deterioration and I'm a fan of the car's ergonomics and SAFETY! Have put ~$12-13,000 into the this car over the last three years and hope for a break from the repairs this year.
As for premium, daughter pumps regular grade so I add premium when I fuel it to get as close to the Saab manual recommended midgrade. I have found using midgrade/premium returns up to a 10% increase in mileage versus regular and better performance, especially in hot weather.
