I have had 200,000 miles of coolant loss with my 2000 v6 . When I first got the car , it was in pretty bad shape . Through the years I have replaced the radiator,hoses, t-stat, oil cooler and cover , Throttle Body , and even the plastic expansion tank { sounds like your problem }
In my case , the head gasket is finally the culprit now , and coolant residue is visible down in front where the oil cooler pipes run . My engine is one of the earlier ones , and the head gasket there is super thin . I have been putting off the job , and I add a little coolant mixture on a regular basis . I use the blue coolant .
If I am stupid enough to keep the car , I will end up pulling both heads . That will make replacing the starter & positive battery cable easier !
I really hate coolant leaks . They stink and pollute and can kill pets if they ingest the stuff .
I'm still ordering parts ! Good Luck !
