Larry - Over in the "Porsche World" this is a pretty common instruction whenever you break the connection at the caliper. By holding the piston in the master cyl partially compressed (using some sort of prop on the brake pedal), the piston will block the "fill" port inside the cylinder preventing all the brake fluid from draining out of the reservoir.
