Very safe to upgrade to Stage 1 without any modifications. Go for it.
I went with JZW SAAB tuning. Eeuro also stands by their products.
Ask the tuner of the SAAB ECU which items you should have bolted on already and how the ECU will fit with those parts.
Yes, it's good to have two SAAB ECU's on hand. One in the car of course.
Later when you find the problem, you can send in your OEM SAAB ECU to be tuned with Stage 3. Hardware on the car first...
Now if your SAAB CPS is still original, go ahead and install a new one anyway.
Check also the TB, vacuum lines, DIC, spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, type of gas used, battery cables (you know, the basics)...SAAB is very sensitive to the electrical gremlins.
