Manufacturer of recent Saab 9-5 Brake Pads?? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 18 Nov 2016 15:01:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the front pads this morning when installing my winter tires - in temperatures that hit 74 degrees in late afternoon!
My '08 Aero has 141K miles and I believe the front pads were factory original. Branded with Ate, Akebono, and Saab trademarks they never impressed me with their stopping capability. Surprisingly the inner pads were only half worn and the outers were 2/3 to 3/4 worn. No wonder they never stopped well, the friction material was so finely grained it never bit into the rotors!
I replaced these with new Saab branded pads. I forgot to look for manufacturer marks before buttoning everything up. The box was marked with Made in Romania but no friction material manufacturer name that I recognized. The pads had obvious GM and Saab marks only. The pad material is much coarser than the OE pads I removed so they should stop better, with correspondingly greater rotor wear.
Anyone know who makes these pads for Orio, or made them for GM/Saab? IIRC these have been sitting in my parts cabinet for over a year.
