Jimmy's point about the brake booster is a good one. It can be a vacuum leak source, and doesn't always manifest itself in noticeable changes in brake performance.
The booster is between the master cylinder and the firewall. One symptom of failure is the characteristic hissing of a vacuum leak, easiest to hear at idle and often changing in sound as you press the pedal. It can be heard by listening carefully under the hood or sometimes even under the drivers side dash.
In some cases the issue is an internal leak on the booster, requiring replacement. In others its vacuum line or check valve leading to the booster, which gets brittle with age and can snap.
Make sure the MAF you get is the real deal -- Saab, Delphi, Bosch -- and not ProParts
