Awesome - thanks - and - yes I get voltage for a a few seconds then zero per what you said. So that's pretty definitive for a bad pump motor.
It looks like if I want to change out the motor I will need the assembly ring aka "mounting gasket", (Adv Auto) I believe. Also about 6" of tubing.
The task is a bit daunting because I read so much about the check valves or the tabs holding them breaking when you try to take them out then it's a big huge problem. You need to fashion a tool to get the top 0-ring out (unless you have one). I'd sure hate to start into something and make it a bigger problem. On the other hand if I try to have someone do it probably they will not want to rebuild the pump they will want to put in a whole new one which is way more. Perhaps warming the plastic just a bit would make it less prone to breaking but I'm kind of leery about using like, a heat gun, around gasoline.
Once the pump is out then it seems straightforward dissassemble / re-assemble with new motor and most instructions I see say put in a new seal when the pump assembly goes back in.
That's where I am right now. I appreciate the help.
