My experience on a '99 SE on which I installed Bilstein rear shocks is that they worked very well indeed until at about 60K, when I started to get a feeling like SAABing_Guy just described - a 'squiggle' during bumps on one side (rear) in curves. Bottom line: that side rear shock still had damping but had lost all nitrogen pressure - but not outward leak or sign of damage. Other side was still perfect.
Bilstein has a lifetime warranty, but you cannot have cut or modified the shock - I had to cut the shafts at the top because of rusty nuts, so I bought a new set of shocks, Bilstein again.
