Worn rear control arm bushings will cause swaying and a feeling of changed direction over bumps. These are the pressed bushings on the knuckle. I replaced both sides, I can't remember if they were obviously visually bad except that some rubber was torn. I replaced almost everything in the rear of a 99 9-5 and these were most responsible for the uncomfortable sway, and squishy feeling in my case.
Worn trailing arm bushings will also contribute to that feeling. I replaced with poly and they were effective and do not need a press. But they will squeak after a while.
The other things mentioned will affect the ride quality too, bounce and ride height. I think the two bushing sets mentioned have more affect on a side to side, sway.
