Hello,
Thought I should add one thing on 1999 SE's. Could be either 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder due to many of the v6 having and issue with the rods. It was explained as an oiling hole drilled the length of the rod to help lubricate the wrist pin that was either not drilled all the way or had debris left in them. Most of the early v6's delivered to the US had the engines switched at the port. Which used up the supply and 4 cylinder engines were installed in the later SE's at the factory. This what how it was explained to us at the dealership back then. The v6's that made it through before discovery of this were supplied to a rental car company. Those engines got replaced at dealers when a piston would grenade.
The port installed engines also led to the "loud exhaust manifold" problem found on a number of them when the foam insulator was not installed properly were the steering shaft exited the car and mated with the rack. The steel firewall side exhaust manifold was not insulated from the driver as much. Good Luck, Bernie
