Having just passed the 1-year anniversary of my purchase of my 2003 9-5 3.0t/v6 wagon, I thought I would share my annual MAINTENANCE/REPAIR cost to own for this vehicle. When purchased, the car had 102,xxx miles, and currently has 111,xxx miles.
Note that the cost includes many "one-offs" that were bought to bring the car back up to very good condition or some spare parts to keep on the shelf.
Biggest ticket item: preventive Timing Belt/Water Pump service at $816.75
Other bigger ticket items included: failed alternator, squeaky strut mounts, failed brake booster
Other interesting items included: new battery, NOS EGR piping/valves to keep on shelf, all new transmission mounts, preventive maintenance CPS, spare DIC, new xenon bulbs, oil pressure switch, turbo bypass valve, intake air temp sensor, MAF sensor
Anyway, after all of that, I hope you're sitting down...
1-year maintenance cost: $4,316.00 - $359/month
Driving this car, however, is one of the most enjoyable experiences in an automobile ever - I absolutely love this car, the smooth power, the creature comforts, etc.
Obviously many of the repairs I did this year will not have to be done again anytime soon, or potentially ever. I did much of the labor myself, but sent the car to my indy for the big stuff (timing belt, alternator, strut mounts, a/c recharge).
