After 4 days and about 2400 miles I arrived in Lafayette, CA with my 02 2.3t with about 68k miles. Car was a champ the whole way. I spent a fair amount of time/elbow grease and ~$2000 getting the car prepared with fresh fluids, filters, new alternator, belt, upper pulley and brake pads and rear rotors (finally moved on from original rear rotors!) and passenger air supply flap and motor. The car ran like new - and the new brakes (akebona >sp?<) suggested by M and M Saab in Woodstock, GA - were a real blessing compared to the poor pads I had been tolerating. Threw down a seat cushion on the seat before heading out and so glad for that as it made all the diff where it counts. Didn't know what I'd find in the Lafayette area for service but lucked up with a euro shop just a block away from hotel that changed oil that meets a3/b3 specs. Having picked up my first windshield chip on this car, shop suggested getting a repair kit across street at Ace hardware. First time doing this myself and it looks as good as what I've had done professionally on my Z4. After carwash, I handed car over to daughter who flew here for school/career. Thanks to this board for the continued support keeping my saabs on the road. Oh, and so much of the right lane of I-40 west needs new pavement - feel sorry for all those truckers dealing with poor slow lane. I pretty much stayed in the fast lane. Averaged about 32 mpg in a loaded up car. Last day car did great with temps between 94 -100 degrees using a/c. Having just changed to short belt, I can fortunately report no issues there.
