IMHO, the 115K-125K mark is where fairly costly repairs need to be made because things wear out. They include:all subframe bushings (~$750 P&L), rear trailing arm and control arm bushings (~$850 P&L), waterpump (~$450 P&L), and alternator (~450 P&L). I consider the first two garage jobs and the latter two as DYI. Then there are the 4 motor mounts (about $120 parts), Rad and associated hoses (~500 P&L), and if your shocks have never been changed, they are definitely dead at 120K miles, so that is about a 1K P&L job, about half that if you DIY.
One way to smooth out this outlay is to do it over time, starting at about 100K miles, over 2-3 years . Problem is if you buy a vehicle that has not had these done, if you total the above list, you are easily over 6K.
I base this on my personal experience with my 2004 Arc and accumulated knowledge having searched this and other saab sites for diagnostics and repair guidance. You can save a fair amount of $s if your know which end of a wrench to use and don't minds spending parts of a weekend doing repair. Members of this site have helped me immensely and I've given back a bit as well.
