1) there are plenty of highly trained, experienced techs that can fix saabs in many areas for maintenance and repair the Takata airbag recall hardly requires an experienced tech( I had to r&r the one in my wife's Honda to fix, install a new cruise control switch -now I was abundantly careful disconnected battery etc ) the thing w/ the recall is it's supposed to be free so people are chasing someone to do it under warranty as an air bag is expensive ! - lucky none of our families Saabs were affected! tho the passenger side of the Honda was! 2) if anyone wants to fix their Saab(gentle or otherwise ! ) themselves it's fine w/ me I do it myself !and encourage it! it's actually really FUN when you don't have to do it for a living! Last, I didn't have a problem w/ the transmission the used CAR we bought did! As I am not a Luddite I will evolve, adapt to the Saab tech, parts situ(I'm buying good used parts I can afford and may need) As a result of the CAR having a problem I became a fervent believer in tranny flushes, it researched it and have no hesitation spending $ to have it done as I don't have a machine! Sounds like many saabistas' just want to change their own fluid that's cool, however, Realistically, I doubt if it is as effective as a properly done flush at removing contaminants and preventing, solving problems. (there is research and stats to support that approach) there are thousands done every year and automatic transmissions are not being harmed! What happens here in Saab blogs may be the statistical anomalies "it's worked for me " people will say and so confirm their subjective biases and yes, so it has ! GOOD ! But as we learned in statistics at U of AZ your experience may not be typical nor be generalised to a population !
