Very nice post.
I'm not the kind of guy who feels like every hose must be connected or the end of the earth is nigh, but the pre GM Saab would've put some kind of little coupling on the end of the hose so it couldn't be connected someplace anyplace. For the most part, tinkering with Saabs is intuitive and then when they trip us up with one stray thing that "just looks incorrect", people will do just about anything to address the non issue.
Have you thought about 2-4 additional drain and fills on that Aisin? Sounds to me like you had some of the most burnt fluid any of us have recently dealt with - none of the fluid in any of mine has ever looked bad, not really. Also, maybe line up a magnetized drain plug to replace the one you have (Am I correct these cars used to have a magnet plug but GM decontented in 2006?)
Again, excellent work!
