Replaced them at 150k with sport suspension kit. Now the car has 305k and sagging springs.
This current set of shocks spent about 10 years in New England - and the top nut is corroded beyond my ability to remove it. So I cannot easily add spacers or replace springs without destroying the shocks in the process - but the car probably needs new shocks at this point anyway.
As far as spacers ($40) vs new springs ($100) - it is not a big difference in price. I think new springs are a proper way to go - maybe they have improved the steels in the years since? Anyway the car is now "retired" and just used for occasional hauling jobs so hopefully new spring sagging will never become a problem again.
