Sway bar link weight Posted by Bill B [Email] (#1884) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill B) on Wed, 12 Jul 2017 16:32:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My sway bar links are shot and I purchased Moogs online. I was surprised at their weight, 23 ounces each, versus 12 ounces for the ones that came out. The rod connecting the ends is half and inch in diameter versus five sixteenths for every other link I have ever replaced on any car and have only seen links fail at the end joints, never in the rod.
I called Moog technical support, but all they could do was verify that I had the right part for the car, a 2001 base 2.3t sedan with 163k miles.
A Saabnet search revealed that Peter Sankus, MarkFR, Snowmobile, Steve, bobc, and bill h. all swear by Moog sway bar links. I grew up thinking that lighter was better on unsprung weight, though the weight difference is likely much less than the difference between a 12 spoke and a 5 spoke wheel.
I was going to return them and buy another premium link but the auspicious crowd of Moog lovers here convinced me to keep them.
Any comments on the unsprung weight issue?
