The suspension travel is limited by the bump stop in the strut. Adding a spacer will now compress the spring additional 2". Since it is already on the yeilding limit it will just quickly yeild 2" more. The situation would be different if I were adding a spacer between the shock and the wheel - but in this case I would still have a problem of limited suspension travel.
Also, from my experience the springs were fine for more than 100k miles (no noticeable sag and even tire wear) and the problem has developed only in the last ~50k.
Getting back to a more pressing question - can I use 2006+ shocks on a MY2000 9-5?
