violent stumble under max boost Posted by bobc [Email] (#473) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bobc) on Sun, 16 Jul 2017 19:40:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2001 Aero, 185k. This car is mildly tuned, it has a Remus sport exhaust and a cold air intake. Im running OpenSID. The car has been set up like this for 6 years or so.
The car starts easily, idles well, drives around town and on the highway normally. Acceleration is smooth and powerful. no hint of any problem whatsoever ... until I push it hard (and I rarely push it hard, its plenty fast with just moderate throttle inputs)
boosting into the yellow is fine. boosting into the red is fine ... but boosting to mid-red or higher causes a sudden and violent bucking/stumbling. boost gauge does not fluctuate but it feels and sounds like the car is dumping boost. backing off on the throttle, just a little, resolves it immediately.
I suspected the Forge Blow off valve (its 8 yrs old now):
- I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it (it was clean) no change.
- Replaced it with a stock bosch. no change.
unrelated to this issue, in the past year I have
- replaced the plugs (I use copper)
- replaced the MAF
Also unrelated, in past 2 years I replaced
- IDM
- Radiator
What am I missing?
