You could try replacing the battery cable first, but your description is so similar to each alt failure I had I strongly suspect only it. Get a nice Bosch rebuilt and don't skimp because the crux is the R + R. A pro can do it in less but it takes me all day - I like to remove some motor mounts and pivot the engine with the passenger side coming forward and the manifold rotating towards the grille -out thru the top past that manifold.

And a failure at 144K - that's just about when it often goes, I find, or maybe 20K later than many.

And this is when the motor mounts get replaced anyway, so that dovetails. Check your subframe mounts also. You could also replace the oil pressure sending unit while you're in deep there. The sender on my '01 failed at 175K.
