Well yeah I'm old enough to recall the days in cold climates when stats were easy to change on a engine - 60s and 70s where it wasn't uncommon for people to run a higher temp stat in the winter.
Also people report that on Saab you will get a CEL if the system detects too low of a coolant temp and that sensor is located on the engine, often the cause being a stat that is opening too soon or stays open.
In my case I couldn't find a 186 F stat - there are 180 and even 160 listed but I ordered the 190 F from Eeuro simply because it does get cold in CO and don't want to give up too much cabin heating .
