I've always called it a tree Posted by Bill B [Email] (#1884) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill B) on Sun, 3 Sep 2017 21:11:04 In Reply to: Re: Sealing the intake manifold vacuum tree, saabsince 93b [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 3 Sep 2017 17:50:39 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got my first Saab in 2009 but was a mechanic in the late '60s and a lot of the '70s. Back then, brakes used vacuum, distributor spark advance was vacuum driven, and a few carburetor functions used vacuum. In ancient times (before the '60s) windshield wipers were frequently vacuum driven and they slowed down during acceleration!
The vacuum source was a tree screwed, friction-fitted, or bolted (as in Saab), to the intake manifold. This tree had two or more branches with hoses attached to the various vacuum loads.
If it has a Saab name, I will start using it.
