But I did the same thing on my '04 Arc, getting her that last 50 miles to someplace I could do the valve swap at. Turn the entire AC/ACC system off with the OFF button and it lessened the coolant loss so I could just stop once or twice and add a quart or water here and another one there.
Having said that, I think each one of the these valve failures varies somewhat. I've talked to people whose valves failed so hard, they had to accept a tow.
