Intermittent start for months. I'm lost. Posted by Gregg [Email] (#677) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gregg) on Thu, 14 Sep 2017 12:01:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, I've tried to read this board and search for an intermittent starting issue for months.
I've got a '07 with 109K on the odometer, 5 spd.
Here are the things I've done followed how the problem manifests itself.
1. replaced starter
2. replaced starter relay under dash
3. replaced plugs
4. replaced DIC
5. removed, cleaned, and lubricated ignition cylinder
6. swapped CPS from 04 wagon
The problem started out very sporadic maybe once out of every 20 turns of the key. Now, it doesn't crank more times than not. Typically, I have to remove/reinsert the key and crank 10-15 times before it starts. When I turn the key to the crank position I hear the hum of the fuel pump. While in the ON position I get full bright electronics of dash and radio. When you turn to the crank position there are no sounds. You can't hear a click, all of the lights on the dash appear. There have been no codes thrown through out this process.
The car seems to crank best when it is cold. In fact after swapping over the CPS the other night it fired right up first time, but after turning it off it wouldn't start again until after 15-20 turns of the key. (it had not been driven since Saturday prior.)
I'm going to swap over the positive cable from the 04 wagon, just to rule out that, but otherwise I'm stumped. The battery is about two years old. The car has never died, or sputtered while driving. And I've always been able to get the car started although it may take a minute or two of trying and retrying to turn over.
And this may be unrelated, but over the last month or two when you remove the key from ignition the radio will continue to play. Also, I now seem to have a boost issue when WOT. It never moves beyond about 1/3 of the way into yellow and the needle seems to hesitate. The car seems sluggish.
Thank in advance for any help.
