Replacing the upper chain guide will silence some of the sewing machine, but how much may vary. The guide slides in from back-to-front IIRC. You might find the old hardened one difficult to remove, and a non-SAAB replacement might require a little trimming to make it slide in correctly. For sure do this - depending on the car, it might be the major part of your noise at idle.
Use the dental floss to run through the bolt holes of both the gasket and valve cover at each bolt hole, then tie a knot in each piece. Because the floss is so thin, it allows the bolts to pass through the holes without interfering. After install, but before tightening the bolts CHECK the gasket for proper install. Then cut the floss, and just pull it out, tighten the bolts to spec, and you're done !
Best of luck -
