Why Not Repair Them Instead? Posted by DnstrDan [Email] (#1361) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DnstrDan) on Thu, 28 Sep 2017 20:15:44 In Reply to: Seat back heating pad source???, three_jeeps, Thu, 28 Sep 2017 17:26:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Rear heated seats are much less common than front heated seats.
It's not that hard to do. Since you have to partially disassemble the seat anyway to get to the pads, it's worth a shot. The only tricky part is properly splicing the broken nichrome heating elements together. The repair I performed has been durable (nearly two years as of this writing.) If you are still unsuccessful, then by all means attempt to source new heater pads.
The front OEM pads incorporate an NTC temperature sensor designed to work with the SAAB heater switch such that power is cut when the seats reach a specified temperature corresponding to positions 1, 2, or 3. The rear heated seats don't have a temp sensor and are moded via the TWICE and an external relay, after the heater switch is depressed, for a specified period of time as per an outside temperature measurement. Rear pads would have to be of the same DC resistance (not specified in the WIS).
