No verdict yet although I am 99% positive it's not the bypass valve as it's dry, and the leak location under the car is too far to the front/passenger side.
Leaning strongly towards heater core. I had no heat a few mornings ago and turned off the climate system completely. When I turned it on a few minutes later I had heat again - but also a very strong coolant smell. I feel like if it were the water pump I would be smelling the coolant regardless of whether the heat is on, but maybe I'm wrong.
This past weekend I replaced a basement walkout door - kind of a big job with too many trips to the depot - and had no time to do any car work. But I'm going to start by flushing the heater core and will give an update then. I see someone else recently has what sounds like the same problem so I'm following that post too.
