Has anyone sealed a TB with anerobic or with Silicone? Posted by Bill B [Email] (#1884) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill B) on Thu, 12 Oct 2017 16:30:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Throttle body gasket arrives Tuesday. It is a Felpro part from Oreillys. I would like to use car tomorrow and Saturday. Can I use anerobic sump pan sealant or silicone RTV until the gasket arrives?
History: A senior moment. I had put the car together after other work, but did not tighten the clamp holding the intercooler hose to the charge air pipe to the Throttle Body (TB). I took it for a test ride around the block. Goosed it to see if the turbo kicked. Got a loud BANG followed by very poor running, not limp home. At home reconnected the intercooler pipe. Ran poorly. Researched SaabNet. Changed the plugs. Ran beautifully, but was throwing P1260 codes every so often. On a three mile ride home from Sears where the tires were rotated, I goosed it again on the highway and got to 80 in an unprecedented flash! Then got a P1251. Pulled the TB. Guess that separation of intercooler hose caused a sudden richness that blackened the plug (which I replaced) and left a little oily puddle in the manifold under the square part of the gasket. Cleaned the TB, which was otherwise not very gummed up and am ready to install with sealant until the gasket arrives.
Am I dancing with the devil?
