My SAAB ownership experience unexpectedly started in early 2000, after my Honda Prelude was rear-ended and totaled. A pretty blonde friend suggested getting a SAAB (she had a beautiful black 900 vert), and intrigued, I went to the local dealership in Santa Monica and rented a '99 9-5 SE for the weekend. I liked its smooth ride so much that I ended up buying it; it's still my daily driver with nearly 196,000 miles. In 2015, I bought a second 9-5 ('04 Aero, Laser Red, M/T, ventilated seats, 92,000 miles) that amazingly won the People's Choice Award for the OG 9-5 category at this year's SOC in Pomona!
Anecdotally, my younger brother had his heart set on buying a brand new, Sunset Orange 1974 Saab 99. My dad took him down to Palm Beach (IIRC) to test drive one and loved it. He came back home with the brochure but never bought any Swedish rolling stock. Lately, I've been considering buying a vintage 99 Turbo as a collector car. Maybe next year?
About my handle, it's a portmanteau... in high school, I had a '70 Datsun 510 and my CB handle (remember those?) was "Datsun Dan". As a middle-aged adult, I really took a shine to social dancing, mostly lindy hop.
