Happened on the way home tonight in 20 degree weather.
2008 9-5 Aero, 169,000 miles, automatic.
I was driving home at ~75MPH tonight heard a subtle Pop sound, CEL illuminated, power decreased. I pulled off to the side, engine died. Would restart but not idle. Belt is On, Throttle Body inlet pipe is on, Turbo By-Pass Valve vacuum line seems firmly attacked.
I was able to re-start the car by keeping revs high. I continued home via the interstate at ~70MPH. I could depress the throttle further and see both the Revs and Boost increase but the vehicle speed did not respond in a like manner. At the stop lights after I exited I had to brake with my left foot, drop the tranny into Neutral, coast to the intersection then fully Stop, keep revs at 1500 or higher until the light turned Green again, then drop the tranny into Drive.
It sure feels like a massive vacuum leak. I will connect my Code Reader tomorrow when the sun is shining and temperatures are warmer.
Any thoughts on obvious places to look?
I have a Mity-Vac to test the By-Pass Valve. The vacuum hose connection seems weird. I can push and pull on the hose and feel movement without the hose obviously moving from the barb. Strange, maybe the valve body is broken.
