Son's Raleigh experiences Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 28 Nov 2017 10:52:00 In Reply to: Nashville checking in, fdw201 [Profile/Gallery] , Mon, 27 Nov 2017 20:17:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Our son grew up in the Detroit area, went to college in Troy (Albany) NY, then got his first job in Raleigh NC.
He was working one day during his first winter in Raleigh and noticed light flurries outside the office window. Nothing major. One of his co-workers stopped by his cubicle around 2pm and asked "Aren't you going home? It is snowing outside."
My son looked out the window and replied "That isn't snow", but then noticed he was the only person left on the entire floor of the office building. He packed up, left for home, and 5 hours later had completed his 15 mile commute!
It wasn't the amount of snow that was treacherous, but the temperature of about 30 degrees. Cars would drive over the fallen snow, the warmth of their tires melted the snow, then the below freezing temps turned the film of snow-melt into ice.
No salt or sand trucks in Raleigh back in 2004. Probably not today either.
