I am not familar with this circuit (so feel free to term this a dumb suggestion), but...if there is a relay that is controlled by the 'night panel switch' it may be the case that the relay is flakey or the wiring in that part of the circuit is broken/not grounded.
Perhaps checking the relay is worthwhile?
