Well, I would refer you to the Evans waterless cooling website and the Numerous youtube videos! Jay Leno has put it in ALL his hundreds of cars! it is an amazing invention albeit NOT cheap to convert ,and you need some special tools to do it EG high VOLUME air (like a leaf blower) NOT high-pressure air (-like an air compressor ) I would think running open, non-pressurized would not be good as you FIRST need to remove all the water ( to less than 2 % )So , at least you need a sealed system ! However , as EVANS does NOT boil ( until 375 Degrees F) it is MUCH safer ! Refractometers are hand-held optical brix-based devices used to measure coolant/ water/ sugar concentration. You put a drop on the lens. The line will indicate at what concentration % your fluid will contain water, H2O Evans waterless is truly a lifetime coolant and would be/is particularly appropriate for a SAAB as w/ the iron block/ aluminum head they are susceptible (at least theoretically ) to dissimilar metal corrosion. Water is an acid, corrosive and the impurities, minerals, chemicals in it are particularly problematic, deleterious to ALL parts of the cooling system . so once a car, truck, SUV is converted and if you put all new parts eg pump , thermostat , hoses , etc it can be considered, (barring component failure or a leak,) a lifetime coolant . Aside from cost, there really are no disadvantages! and a plethora of benefits: better cooling, no corrosion, more power, better mileage , increased engine longevity, zoot factor, sadly won't bake bread or change the babies diaper! well, can't have everything eh?
