Many years ago in the good old days, a high pressure line on my Volvo 240 rusted out teaching me a good lesson. An indy "The Volvo Doctor" installed a whole new rack assy since it was a better value. That car lasted me another ~10 yrs so it worked out in the end. That said, do an assessment on how much work will be required over the next few years knowing the common problems we see on this board. To combat the rust, I am always spraying or coating lines under the cars in spite of annual or bi-annual rust proofing. Don't forget the brake lines in the vicinity of the gas tank as they twist up and over from the passenger side (NAmer cars). Generally, if the body, engine and tranny are acceptable to your standards ,the car is worth saving.9-5's are still quite competitive from a safety and fuel efficiency perspective. Eventually, our 9-5's can be relegated to the role of a respectable but unique winter beater or college car where applicable.
