Hello,

To all that have had the slow when hot issue on later model Saab 9-5's, I have found the elusive issue.
Reading countless comments, I spent hundreds of dollars on DI, Plugs, vac hoses, sensors like temp, iat, cps, even the throttle body, etc. but the issue still occurred. Until I was reading on Trionictuning.com, and Tironicseven youtube, both of whom deserve credit, these cars rely on robust grounding in order for the high voltage and knock sensing function of the Trionic system to work properly. There are three ground points, but the problematic one is the one that bolts to a screw on the thermostat hsg. Even if it is thought to be tight, there is still oxidation that can occur and when the engine block heats up the ground looses contact and causes knocks as detected by the ECU. The ECU then retards the timing thinking its protecting the engine. I noticed this in open sid (iggoff) and it would read up to -250 or 25 degrees retarded in some cases, this exactly corresponded to the car being slow when hot.
It wasn't until I wrenched the 10mm bolt a little did the car start running strong cold, warm and hot all day. One note is that if IAT temps go above 45c, the normal function of the ECU may still slightly retard the iggoff, but the car will still feel strong. Not like before.
I hope this reaches those that have this elusive problem. It was frustrating and does cause thoughts of sale. . . lol
