You or your mechanic will have to be the judge on whether you can replace the bearing only and reuse the strut mount.

I've replaced front struts on four 9-5's so far. I bought new strut mounts the first two times, but found the OE mounts exceedingly hard to find back three years ago.

Because I had little choice, I ordered in two different brands of aftermarket mounts. One set had such poor welds for the captive nuts that one broke off just handling it to check the quality. The other set included a bolt with a bolthead so badly miss-formed that it would have required a different size wrench than the other 5 for that pair of mounts. So for the next two jobs I reused the old mounts - but with all other parts new, including the strut bearings (SKF), all bushings, and the sacrificial galvanized spring spacers. After 35K on one and 25K on the other set, those cars are doing fine.

SAAB branded mounts seem available again from eEuro and eSAABparts - but someone else will have to vouch for whether quality matches the originals.

By the way - if you do reuse the mounts, be VERY CAREFUL about reusing the trilobe bolts and not cross-threading them. Those bolts are self-tapping and are prone to rust, so it is easy to strip the captive nuts reusing the bolts.

Hope this is helpful,

Mark in Marine
