Dave you are right, although it feels longer ago than 2011!
This poor car was abused and ignored by "non-saabers" in Texas (I shudder to think of the brand of oil they used and how they failed to adjust the ride height appropriately :-) ). It was "treated" for sludge at that time using Sea Foam or similar. After that my oldest son bought it and drove it for a year or so while he was stationed at Ft Hood. When he was deployed to Iraq I adopted the car (that was ~2009).
eventually I got around to dropping the pan and found this
Sludgey! But not horrible. I've seen pics of much worse and beleived that car would survive. I cleaned it out, buttoned her up and drove it. It proved to be a great car over the years. Pretty, and fast.
~3 years ago the car was sideswiped while stopped at an intersection.
I took the pay-out from the insurance co, and fixed it with junkyard parts. It's still a beautiful car, with a salvage title now.
2 years ago my youngest son took over ownership and he keeps it at school (NC State) where it gets very intermittent use. When we dropped the pan last week it was exceptionally clean.
However the damage from it's past might be slowly taking its toll. I intend to continue to maintain it and drive it to it's graceful death.
