Projekt 640 - 25th Anniversary 1 Saabers Like This Post! Posted by Dave The Ice Age Knave [Email] (#2068) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dave The Ice Age Knave) on Sat, 3 Mar 2018 10:33:34 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
February marked the 25th anniversary of the beginning of Project 640, the Saab endeavor to build the best Saab ever, the 9-5.
To commemorate the occasion, I just received my order from State of Nine for "Saab 9-5 - A personal story" written by Anders Tunberg about the project.
It's a fascinating insight into the development of the car. It's filled with a great many photographs of the car as it went through the various design, development and testing phases as well as the creative and talented people that contributed to the process.
Initially skimming the book, it shows the boldness of the design and the meticulousness of how the 9-5 team were able to create such an advanced, safe, beautiful and timeless four door sedan in spite of the many constraints they were under.
I can also see how it sheds some light on some of the lingering questions the 9-5 enthusiast community has about the history of the electronics, engine design and suspension systems to name just a few.
After learning more, I will try to post a few highlights (spoiler alert!) that relate to some of the issues that frequently come up on this board.
Hard cover, 144 pages.
Over and out.
