But G-05 contains a smidgen of silicate to go along with a sebacic acid based inhibitor. G-48 (Blue Stuff) has a smaller smidgen of silicate with the same sebacic acid based inhibitor. DexCool contains no silicate, and the inhibitor is based on carbolic acid, rather than sebacic. Carbolic acid is supposedly more stable (hence the recommended change interval somewhere between 5 years and forever, as opposed to two years for the sebacic acid based coolants) but otherwise the action is pretty much the same. Having the silicate minimizes early problems with DexCool, like iron oxidation that occurred in some older iron block and head GM cars and trucks without pressurized coolant recovery tanks and erosion in poorly designed water pump impellers that occurred especially in Dodge trucks.
