DI Cassette Failure with No Warning?

I was just wondering if it could be a bad DI cassette. There wasn't any warning, though. I was accelerating nicely and it just stopped. The car's been fine, and lately seemed to have a bit more power (I thought possibly a rich mixture, but the fuel mileage is normal).
Do DI cassettes fail without warning? The only symptom has been slow cranking, but I've heard that's normal in 9-5s (1-year old Interstate battery, voltage is good). On the side of the road today, it cranked nicely, but just didn't turn over.
The car has 83,000 miles, which I'd think is a bit early for a cassette. I do have an old one at home of unknown condition (90% sure it's ok), so I may try swapping that in.
Thanks in advance (again).
