Oil pushing up/out through dipstick Posted by thetallguy [Email] (#1698) [Profile/Gallery] (more from thetallguy) on Wed, 4 Apr 2018 05:17:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently purchased an '08 9-5 Sportcombi auto. It was given a clean bill of health from the local Saab garage in Charlotte. However, I am seeing oil on the top of the dipstick with a small amount leaking out around the top onto the intake manifold...cleaned this area/changed oil. The problem continues. I also note that after a careful filling using 4.1 quarts the dipstick indicates an "over full" condition. I used a vacuum pump to verify the one way check valve. On the 08, it's really not possible to install this valve incorrectly. Such is the case with mine. It is correctly installed and holds vacuum. I added a second check valve in line just to be sure. No changes. Other than this the car is perfect.Boost is good. Oil consumption appears to be holding at "too full" same as it was about 4k ago when I first purchased it. The oil trap is not leaking at all-totally dry. I have some leakage around hose from sump to wherever that hose goes but its not too bad-both ends zip tied. The evidence of the oil on the manifold and around the filler pipe is pretty obvious so some oil is being lost due to pressure. There are no leaks elsewhere. I am back in my 9000 until I sort this issue before I do have a serious crank seal/oil pump seal leak from excessive pressure-at least that is my concern. Is it possible that the "over-full" sump is creating a mess from a small positive sump pressure? Not sure why the 4.1 quarts resulted in this "over full" condition. Perhaps my understanding of the amount to refill is incorrect. Thanks!
