My car still has the thin head drain plug requiring a 24mm wrench to remove. It does not have a dipstick tube through which to pour the new ATF. Instead, it came with a fill plug using a shallow recessed T55 Torx fitting. The teeth on this fitting are notorious for shearing when attempting to remove the plug.
I use the 24mm end of a 22/24mm open end wrench I bought at Sears years ago for the specific purpose of ATF draining on my 2000 9-5's automatic transmission.
Now I have a T55 bit for the factory fill plug that will go into retirement, replaced by a 3/8-inch hex bit for the new Fill Plug.
Speaking of single use tools that I have bought to DIY service these cars, I also now own a 3/4-inch, 12 pt, deep offset wrench specifically developed for the valve spring adjustment nuts on Cummins Diesel Engines. This tool is perfect for R&R of the engine temperature sensor!
