If you want to confirm that the heating element is bad, measure the resistance across the two black sensor wires (I think the color is correct). If the circuit is open (infinity Ohms) then you damaged the sensor when you put it in. I don't remember the resistance, but I am sure it is 100 Ohms or less.
I've ruined one sensor by trying to install it with one of those slotted deep sockets. It is not deep enough and it crimps the wire. The crows foot style socket tends open up at the slot and slip off. Now I cut the wires on the old sensor and use a standard deep socket to remove it (the socket is stronger without a slot), and use an open end wrench (24 mm?) to install the replacement.
