Larry, if you don't see anything local try a look at McMaster Carr web site.
They carry all sorts of things mechanical, including "piano wire" and drill bits. I'd personally go with an even-smaller-than-1/16th diameter cleaning wire because you can get some flex in those that a drill bit will never have and the smaller diameter might get you past a "step" in the inner bore.
I've used McMaster Carr for Viton(R) O-rings, replacement brushes for the HVAC blower motor, 16/18 gauge wiring with PTFE insulation, threaded rod with nuts & ball bearing for pulling in bushings, and a few other things sort of automotive. They aren't always super cheap, but sometimes prices are surprisingly low compared to "automotive" or "laboratory" pricing.
