I have been using silicone for years and have not had these problems. Get good quality high temp hose from eEuroparts and Grainger......
This is not true "The problems with silicone are that it's slick enough that sometimes the hoses will slide off, and if you use them for vacuum hoses that can have oil residue running through them, like on the PCV hoses, they'll sweat oil and swell up. You should be able to get at least 5 years out of rubber hoses, maybe more. "
I have more trouble removing them. They don't swell or crack.
Rubber is just plain inferior and there are so many hoses under the Saab hood that 4mm silicone is what you use.
