Years of reading Saab 9-5 posts indicates that they are rarely a problem except for some vague evidence that an old bad one could take out cylinder #1 eventually on the 4 cylinder. Agree that units with oiled filters will need some sort of regular cleaning, lots of evidence of that on the internet for other cars. I think I have only cleaned one 9-5 MAF - a new to me Dame Edna that I recall I took the MAF off for better access to service the light bulbs which seems to be a bit tighter on the Dame. I used electronic spray cleaner.
